Join me in June!

I’m very excited about the retreat we have planned in June for healthcare marketers trying to drive real change. The Joe Public Retreat, held June 19-21 in Minneapolis, was inspired by clients, all the folks I’ve met out on the road while speaking, and those who have contacted me after reading “Joe Public Doesn’t Care About Your Hospital.”

On one hand, it’s fantastic to hear how so many are enthusiastically embracing change. On the other, there is shared frustration with those who can’t seem to break through the stifling old-school thinking they face in their organizations. CEOs who claim to want something different, but then fall back to chest-pounding messages and wasteful billboards. Physicians who demand support, but don’t get digital. Executives who ask for marketing accountability, but who then won’t let marketing pursue effective strategies.

This retreat is designed specifically to help those folks gain insights into change management strategies and build a plan for driving marketing change. This will be a very hands-on experience. One of the things I like best about my work in healthcare marketing is rolling up my sleeves with smart, energized people who really want to make a difference. I think it’s going to be an incredible experience.

If you have any questions about the retreat, shoot me an email. It would be great to see you in June!

Step aside digital, content marketing is the new queen

Each year, healthcare marketers seem to latch on to a “theme of the year.” In 2011, it was social media – everywhere you turned, there were social media symposiums, national conferences were loaded with SM content, blog posts and other discussions were all about SM. Last year, it was “digital.” Everyone wanted to know more about digital marketing, digital strategy, etc. (with seemingly as many definitions for “digital” as there were sources of information). So far in 2013, it looks like our top candidate for theme of the year is “content marketing.” (applause, applause) Like snow in April in Minnesota – it’s everywhere. Continue reading…
